I’ve received this question in the DMS from a few people, so let’s dive in. I am NOT holding back in this one, so buckle up. Short Answer: IT DEPENDS. Let me explain. First of all, what is considered educational? My favorite definition is this: “intended or serving to educate or enlighten.” Content that serves with the intention to educate or enlighten someone is a beautiful thing. There’s nothing wrong with that, so educational content is great! However, HOW we choose to approach educational content can make or break us in 2024. If your goal is to look like the smartest person in the room as if you’re a Harvard or Yale professor, that might not fly with your audience. |
Most people have become more conscious and aware of how marketing works….so the same style is no longer effective. You might get a lot of saves, but if you aren’t making sales from your content, your business will take a hit. So if they can connect with or relate to our content in a natural way where they feel seen, heard, valued and respected, it’s a win! When creating educational content, think: digestible, relatable and connection. It doesn’t have to be boring with hundreds of words we can barely see on one slide. Try approaching educational content with interesting analogies, examples, personal experiences, client experiences, etc. What do all of those have in common? STORYTELLING. It’s what differentiates you from AI and all of the other people in your industry. Your uniqueness and experiences are your superpower because that’s what actually helps you to stand out. |
Why do you think TikTok is so successful? The U.S. government is really trying to ban the app, and Congress miraculously agrees on something. TikTok has been successful because of the way people share and connect authentically, truthfully and unfiltered. Why not bring THAT to Instagram? That’s what building your online community is all about. Every few years, new shifts happen, and if you don’t get with the times, it will affect your sales. So if you’re still a negative Nancy who wants to shame people into buying, that isn’t going to work this year. Remember, your goal is to speak to the empowered buyer who WANTS to work with you. You don’t have to use silly tactics to get ahead. You simply want to meet your audience where they are. Transparency SELLS. And if people don’t like the REAL, unfiltered you, guess what?! They are not your people. I always invite people to unfollow me if the content no longer aligns (no offense taken). I am NOT everyone’s cup of tea, nor do I want to be. BARS! Educational content still works if you move like Missy Elliot. Throw that thing down, flip it and reverse it. Make educational content fun and engaging. Don’t talk AT people….speak WITH them by inviting them into the conversation. P.S. A few people in my DMs and comments said they would love to see a masterclass or live about speaking to the empowered buyer. It’s already in the works!!! So stay tuned 👀 With so much love, Content Coach Lindsay ♥️ |
