Someone in my DMs said they were quitting Instagram after 4 years of creating content and posting. This made me sad because she’s been following me since early 2022. Of course my response was why? Is everything okay? She said she barely reaches any accounts and even asked for my feedback on her page if I didn’t mind. So I looked at her page and felt like I was in high school again with a boring teacher. (Yes, savage.) That’s no offense or shade to my girl who asked for help, because SHE isn’t boring at all, but her content made me yawn (literally) as I was scrolling. Sometimes, we don’t know how we’re perceived by others, but most of her content was carousels with so many words on each slide. |

Content needs to be digestible today. Another issue was that her reel started with “today I’m going to talk to you about,” which isn’t a good way to draw people in. And lastly, she is such a vibe, but I couldn’t feel any of that in her content. She’s been listening to experts who told her to approach her content “professionally,” but it left her feeling lost and didn’t allow her personality to shine! So I sent an honest voice memo back saying, “Sis! I have so much love for you, but this content is boring and doesn’t show your personality or your story at all. Are you open to making changes?” She actually laughed and thanked me for my honesty. She said yes! And so I gave her a little bit of free advice. I asked her a powerful question that I’ll ask you. What does EVERYONE want? CONNECTION. We’re wired to connect with other people. Focus on finding ways to connect with your audience instead of showing them everything that you know. Create more conversational content that CONNECTS with people. This leads to higher engagement AND builds trust. People go on social media to unwind from a long day, be nosy, laugh and even escape reality. Keep this in mind before your next post.
